Join this introductory class to get a feel for the dance.

Belly Dance Classes - Beginner

My Belly Dance Beginners course is perfect for those with little or no experience.

  • Improve core muscle strength, posture and muscle isolations
  • Explore the foundation of belly dance movements, to include hip, chest and arm combinations
  • Discover belly dance coordination, combinations and choreography with the use of individual movements and isolations
  • Learn to shimmy and improve this movement for the duration of the course
  • Increase the fluidity of arm movements
  • You’ll receive friendly feedback throughout the course
  • Wear comfortable trousers/pants, t-shirt/vest top & training belly dance belt.. Ballet dance shoes or similar.

Belly Dance Classes - Refresher

On my very popular 12 weeks Belly Dance course, you will be taught all the skills necessary to develop your physical strength, muscle awareness, and mind-body connection.

  • You will learn accurate technique, muscle isolation and shimmies.
  • All belly dance movements will be broken into steps and will be put together in combinations as the classes progress week by week.
  • 8 weeks of technique & the optional following 4 weeks of choreography.

Below are some of the questions most frequently asked by new participants to my Belly Dance classes.
What is Belly Dance?
Imagine Belly Dance as the mother of all Oriental Dance Styles underneath (Egyptian, Lebanese, Turkish styles) or “Raqs Sharqi” in Arabic, as well as a vast variety of folkloric dances from Middle Eastern countries.  
What do I wear?
Something comfortable. Ideally a comfortable top with leggings or jogging pants. NO jeans as this is an exercise class. If you want to dress up for the fun of it, wear a circular skirt and a scarf to tie around your hips.
Do I have to show my belly?
No, not at all.  It’s entirely your personal choice and up to each participant.
What are the health benefits of doing Belly Dancing?

Body: Losing weight, depending on the intensity of exercises per week. Strengthen of your core muscles, improving your posture, your balance and your flexibility. Walking tall and feeling confident, your self-esteem will be boosted.
Brain: Incorporating dance as exercise engages the brain, influencing memory, attention span, concentration and the ability to learn. Because Middle Eastern dance involves coordination and a variety of movements, it challenges the brain as well as the body.
Mind: In recent years, neuroscientists have studied the relationship between the body, the brain and the mind. They have found that exercise increases the level of saratonin, norepinephrine and dopamine. The result is a calm, more positively energized and confident demeanor.
Soul: Your are embracing your beauty, elegance and authentic self. Nothing else count, only you. This is a dance for being your true self. Nobody is judging or comparing, as everyone has her own unique beauty. 

Studies: Dance that requires more decision-making, like freestyle, than memorization has been shown to be more beneficial to mental acuity. Belly dance meets this criteria. The main benefit was derived from dancing often, three to four times a week. (The New England Journal of Medicine, June 19, 2003)

Is there a minimum age to join your classes?
As these classes are for adults, the required minimum age is 16 years old.
I have no dance experience at all, does it matter?
No, it doesn’t matter. Belly Dance is about having fun and enjoying dancing to music. You will learn some fun, dynamic and easy to follow routines. My classes are non competitive, we are supportive. Remember we’ve all been there, and attended our first Belly Dance class.
Am I too old? Am I too fat? Am I am too thin?
No! The age of Belly Dancers in my classes ranges from 16 to 65 year old. My students are all shapes and sizes. You don’t have to lose weight to do belly dancing, you actually will lose weight (depends on the intensity you are exercising per week) and refine your muscles. In general, I would suggest: Use your curves, don’t lose them!  I’ve enjoyed Belly Dancing from day one, because it was the only dance class which gave me the chance to become a dancer and just be me.
I’m pregnant, can I participate?
As with any new exercise routine, participants should discuss with their General Practitioner before joining the class, but otherwise pregnant women are more than welcome to attend.
I’m a man; can I join your Belly Dance classes?
I am very happy and grateful for your interest, but I am afraid, these classes are only for women. For many women is Belly Dance a new adventure and to ensure a safe, comfortable and flourishing environment, I decided (following the tradition) only to teach women. Thank you for your understanding.
